How to attract Godly Blessings
Read Exodus 1:8-21
This story begins with a leadership change in Egypt. A new pharoah that does not know Josephe. This pharoah was not just mean but also jealous. He could not stand the population explosion of the Isrealites. Somehow he was intimidated by their increasing number. So what did he do?
He decided to change the rules. He told the midwives to decrease their population by killing their male children. Imagine this senario. This sounds like recruiting a new manager. He comes into the establishment and has a problem with the way the team is structured. Straightaway, he begins making his own rules. You either obey him or loose your job.
This was the type of scenarios the midwives found themselves. Imagine the prime minster telling hospital staff to kill their patients. Immediately, we see the type of people that fear God more than men. This midwives knew this rule was immoral so in their hearts they choose not to obey the new rules.
I will like you to notice what happened here. They did not argue with the king rather they quietly spared the male children. They chose to obey God rather than men. Notice what happened next. When Pharaoh notice that the males were still alive, he challenged the midwives. They simply replied with wisdom saying- The Hebrews women are not like the Egyptians. They give birth before we can even give them a helping hand. Pharaoh was saddened but couldn't force them.
He chose another tactics of telling the public to throw male babies in the river. The story ends by telling us something really powerful- And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families of their own. What a blessing. Notice that the public who Pharaoh asked to throw any male child in the river were never mentioned. Perhaps they obeyed Pharaoh. The bible is silent about this. However the point is that only the midwives attracted Gods blessings.
So what is the Lord trying to teach us in this reflection. I believe God wants to teach us at least theee things from this passage:
1) The secret to atttacting Gods blessings comes from Obeying God rather than Men. Only the midwives who feared and obeyed God had rewards
2) If leaders make laws against the word of God, we must strive to obey God rather men. The midwives choose in their heart to do the right thing without arguing with Pharaoh. You may not be in a position to challenge most laws working against Gods word in your sphere of influence. However you can keep doing the right thing. God takes note of it all.
3) We need Gods wisdom to respond when dealing with authority or leadership. Here we need the help of the Holyspirit. The way the midwives responded made it difficult for Pharaoh to force them against their wills. I pray God will give us the wisdom to know how to respond in challenging situations so we do not miss the blessings or reward
Finally, I want you to remember that God noticed the midwives obey him and blessed them with homes of their own without their asking. They did not need to pray for a blessing or ask for one. Automatically God noticed and blessed them.
I am confident that if we can fear and obey God rather than man, we will constantly attract Gods blessings without even asking. God bless you as you go and and obey His word today and always. Amen
