Day 19 focuses on Jesus as the Light of the World who heals blindness—not only physical sight, but spiritual vision.
In John 9 the disciples see the blind man as a problem to explain (“Who sinned?”), but Jesus sees a person through whom God’s works will be revealed. The healing is humble and messy (clay and washing), yet the testimony is clear: Whereas I was blind, now I see.”
The meditation connects this to 1 Samuel 16:7: people judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart. Lent becomes a call to ask God to open “the eyes of your understanding” (Ephesians 1:18) so we can see ourselves and others the way Christ does.
Key takeaway: Ask Jesus to heal your blindness—bias, fear, judgment, self-condemnation—so that you can recognize God’s grace at work, treat “difficult” people as souls Christ died for, and live as God’s beloved child.
Reflection
- Who am I judging by appearance or reputation?
- Where am I spiritually blind to God’s work or my own sin?
- Am I blaming myself/others instead of asking how God might be glorified in this?
Prayer : “Lord, open my eyes—wash away my misconceptions—so I may truly say, ‘Whereas I was blind, now I see,’ in Jesus’ name.” Amen
