“Blind Spots” (Restoration of Sight)
This meditation compares spiritual blind spots to a driving blind spot: the most dangerous issues are the ones we don’t realize are there.
Drawing on Matthew 7:3–4, it warns that we often notice the small “mote” (fault) in others while ignoring the “beam” (larger sin) in ourselves—especially sins we’ve normalized or renamed, like calling criticism “discernment,” gossip “prayer requests,” or anger “righteous indignation.”
Using Psalm 139:23–24, it emphasizes that true self-examination requires God’s help, because our hearts can deceive us.
Lent is presented as a season to stop relying on our own judgment and invite God to “search” us, reveal hidden sin, and lead us toward repentance.
The meditation concludes that restored spiritual sight begins with humility: accepting the pain of being corrected, removing our own “beam,” and then learning to view others with Christlike compassion.
It ends with reflection questions and a prayer asking God to expose blind spots and grant courage and grace to change. Lord help me. Amen
